New MSU Library Streaming Video for Reserves for Request Form

By Sara Miller, MLIS (Librarian for Interdisciplinary Teaching and Learning Initiatives)

Dear IAH instructors,

I hope you are all having fantastic summers. As you’re preparing your course materials for the fall, please make note of the following change to our streaming video access at the Libraries. As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions at all about the Libraries or information literacy as they relate to your IAH courses. You can reach my email or set an appointment to meet with me by using the link in my email signature.

We are trying a new system for streaming video for classes and ask that instructors now please fill out the form on the left-hand side of our Course Reserves pages https://lib.msu.edu/reserves to request that we purchase films or make sure that we have the films available for class requirements.

As noted on the form, we are moving away from so many short-term rentals on Kanopy, so please don’t assume that a link to a film on Kanopy that worked in the past is still the correct link.  Many times we will have purchased the film on a different platform.

By filling out the form you can work with us to avoid some confusing situations that happened this past year.  You ensure:

  • We have the film available for your class and that it will not expire in the middle of the semester
  • We associate your class with the right link to the film so that students are not going to the wrong platform.
  • Students will be able to find the films for their class by searching their class on https://lib.msu.edu/reserves

Thanks for working with us to streamline and improve our streaming film for classes requests so that they are more similar to our course reserves for books and e-books.

Sara
