The Center for Integrative Studies in the Arts and Humanities is excited to announce that we have recently become MSU’s administrating body for Lumière, which was previously overseen by CeLTA.

Lumière (https://lumiere.berkeley.edu/) is a database of films housed at the University of California-Berkeley that allows instructors to create clips and stream clips or full films for use in their courses. Originally created as a resource for language learning, Lumière now houses over 8000 films in 193 languages, and the collection includes many English-language films, as well.
In order to stream films from Lumière, MSU must own a hard copy of the film in our library. We have identified 426 films that are owned by MSU, but there are likely even more, and we will work on updating the inventory as we go. Unlike other streaming services like Kanopy, film rights will never expire through Lumiere, so as long as MSU continues to own a hard copy, the film will be available on the service. Once you have a registered account, you will be able to order films to stream in your course. Films and clips are only available for set amount of time (2-12 weeks) and cannot be shared via email or announcements, only as a link in the D2L content folders.
In order to utilize Lumière, you must be a current instructor at MSU and teaching currently. Lumière cannot be used for research purposes. To request an account and get started requesting films or clips, or to ask any questions about the service, email Lumière administrators, Adam Gacs (gacs@msu.edu) and Julie Koehler (jkoehler@msu.edu).
