I. GRADUATE EMPLOYEE POSITIONS
IAH 201: The United States and the World
Teaching Assistantships
Up to 3 teaching assistant positions (1/2 time appointments) available for on-campus teaching
Qualifications
Required
- Enrolled in good standing in a graduate program in the College of Arts & Letters or the Department of History
- Substantial graduate-level course work in American culture, history, or literature
- Ability to respond to students' writing, engage students in discussion and critical thinking, foster active learning
- Completion of at least one semester assisting in IAH 201 at time of application
Preferred
- Advanced doctoral student
- Interdisciplinary background or orientation
- Appointment as TA in IAH 201 in 2008-2009 or prior appointment of at least two semesters
- Prior experience teaching one's own course
Job Expectations
- Teach 40 students in course on unities and diversities of American experience within a global context.
- Lead and conduct discussions of assigned readings and other course materials; respond to students' writing; plan and conduct other learning activities; grade student work.
- Hold four office hours per week.
- Participate in pre-session workshop and in occasional meetings during the session.
- 40 hours per week averaged over accelerated 71/2-week session (the equivalent of 20 hours per week averaged over a fall or spring semester).
Compensation
Stipends for levels 1, 2, and 3 will be on the same scale as in spring 2009; tuition waiver for four credits.

- Appointment as TA in IAH 202 in 2008-2009 or prior appointment of at least two semesters

- Lead and conduct discussions of assigned readings and other course materials; respond to students' writing; monitor on-line discussion groups; plan and conduct other learning activities; grade student work.

- 40 hours per week averaged over accelerated 71/2-week session (the equivalent of 20 hours per week averaged over a fall or spring semester).
