On of the strategic imperatives of Boldness by Design is to undertake outreach and engagement and economic development activities that are innovative, research-driven, and lead to a better quality of life for individuals and communities
CIS-AH encourages and supports the design and development of IAH courses and academic initiatives that include a component of community engagement (CE). It is widely accepted by scholars of teaching at primary, secondary, and college levels that students learn appreciably more by "doing" than by passively receiving information. In IAH courses and other academic initiatives students, instructors and other community partners are expected, indeed required, to participate in active learning through community engagement.
What does this mean in practical terms? It means that students and instructors will give time outside of class as a volunteer/intern to an individual or organization that has a focus on sustainability.
