IAH 203: Latin American and the World

Since the fifteenth century Europeans and their heirs (the 'West') sought to dominate the world, including Latin America, through conquest and the establishment of formal and informal empires. This course examines conquest and empire building since the late fifteenth century by Spain, Great Britain and the United States; resistance and revolution; and their cultural and social consequences in Latin America.

Music and Culture in the Western World from Classical Antiquity to the Present. Survey of General Characteristics of Western Arts and Culture in Prehistory, Antiquity, the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern eras. Exploration of Culture's Effects on Music, and Music's Effects on Culture.
